Alexandra “Al” Mateo is an associate at Wiley Petersen Law Firm.
Originally from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Al was raised in Las Vegas, graduating from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts as a Vocal major. She then earned her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California, Irvine.
She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from William S. Boyd School of Law in 2022. During law school, Al was actively involved in several student organizations. She served as the Vice President of the Auction for the Public Interest Law Association, President of the Criminal Law Society, and Vice President of the Organization for Women Law Students. In her third year of law school, she received the CALI Excellence Award for Advanced Advocacy: Appellate Court.
Al also served as the Symposium Editor for the Nevada Law Journal, Volume 22, in which she was the lead coordinator for the 2022 Sixth Annual White Paper Half-Day Symposium – “Guns in the Sky: Nevada’s Firearm Laws, 1 October and Next Steps”. In her role as Symposium Editor, she was also responsible for editing and acquisition process for all articles selected for publication in the Nevada Law Journal Volume 22, Issue 3, “Affirming Civil Rights Through State Legislation”. Her student note, “Fear, Insanity, and Loathing in Nevada” is the first comprehensive look at Nevada’s Guilty by Reason of Insanity plea and was published by the Nevada Law Journal in 2022.
Prior to joining Wiley Petersen, Al worked with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, as an extern for the Honorable Abbi Silver with the Nevada Supreme Court, and in the Education Advocacy Department at Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada.
